Starbucks mentoring/hang out reflection

Friday I met with a few lovely ladies at Starbucks!   They all emailed me about their love of photography when I did a recent give away.   We had a blast.   I didn’t feel like I was mentoring, I felt like I was hanging out with girlfriends.   That is what I love about this industry, I have met some wonderful peers that have become intertwined in my life, just like Erin who I blogged about last week!

So after this little date I got to thinking about what I really want.   Why do I have this huge urge to help others?   I think I realized that it is not about helping people take pictures…  that is fun…to share tips, and teach people about their camera…. but that is not what touches my heart.  I LOVE seeing people chase their dreams and passions…. seeing their lightbulb go off that they CAN do what they love!  I think I would feel the same excitement for someone who realized they wanted to be a stylist, or an event planner, or a dog walker, anything that makes their heart sing really radiates a positive energy and I LOVE it!!

Over the last two years I have been on this journey it really has me evaluating people in my life and who shares the same positive energy.   Who wakes up in the morning striving for success and happiness EVERY DAY?  People who share my energy for that, are the people I have slowly started surrounding myself with.   This is totally possible at a place of employment too, I’m not saying you have to start a business to feel passionate…. there are teachers at my school who are incredibly inspiring, and I have no doubt that they were put on this planet to be a teacher and change the lives of children.

To be honest, I think in some ways my business has helped me become a better teacher.   I love telling the kids about it, and hearing about what they want to do  after school.  Their eyes get big at thought of doing what they love to make money…..   I have incorporated this crazy energy I have into my classroom.

Anyway, it all brought me back, full circle to this video that I posted when I first launched my business….  a video that I usually show my students at some point throughout the year.

I really do think if we all do what we LOVE for a living, the world will be a happier and more positive place.   Plus if you love your work, you will be more successful because you will want to do it ALL the time!

Heidi I’m so glad I got witness your lightbulb and energy!!!  So exciting!  I know you are going to do GREAT things!!  Heidi has a great blog!2014-05-17_0002
