What is our story, what’s our purpose, what makes us different? The next time someone asks you this, I want you to have your story ready. What is the bigger picture of why you do what you do?
What makes me different?
When I first started thinking about what really makes me different, my instinct was to say that I just really love helping other women entrepreneurs. That’s not enough, though. Everyone loves what they do or they wouldn’t be doing it! It’s a hard question to answer for everyone.
The Shine the Light Society started as a challenge. It wasn’t something that I planned for a long time or thought about very much. What inspired me to start the Shine the Light Challenge were two incidents that happened in my local community.
First, there was a tragic incident at the local high school where a young student took his own life during school hours. I felt compelled to sit down with Gracie and talk to her about how important it is to treat everyone with kindness and to not let them sit alone.
That same week, a friend of mine experienced bullying as an adult. It was so upsetting and it was clear to me that we all needed to remember how to treat each other with kindness and love.
The Shine the Light Challenge started out as just an opportunity for us to grow our businesses with love. Lifting other entrepreneurs up, encouraging them and praising them publicly, doesn’t overshadow us. It shines the light on us and our business as well.
We can do anything. All the answers are out there. This online world is out there for the taking and my purpose, what makes me stand out, is this desire to create this encouraging, safe space for other women who have big dreams. It’s the drive to make the world a brighter place by shining the light on other business owners and encourage everyone else to do the same.
What makes you unique?
The next time someone asks what makes you unique, dig a little bit deeper to find that story, find that why behind your business that is bigger than you. How is your work making this world better? That’s the thing that’s going to make you unique.
