Running a business is crazy!   Now that I’m doing it with a baby and my other full time job everything seems even more crazy.   Crazy awesome, but also CRAZY SCARY!   Everyday I have this fear that I will let go of my dreams because that would be easier than to keep pushing forward.

So last night I had this crazy idea to offer a free mentoring session when my facebook page hits 900 likes.  I posted it…. then there was this surge of anxiety… like “what if all the photographers out there are rolling their eyes?”   What in the world makes me good enough to mentor someone when I still have SO much to learn myself?!!!  I kinda freaked out internally.   I didn’t freak out about what I know or if I can teach it, I was freaking out about what others might think.   I had to talk myself off the ledge….  I have learned A LOT in the last two years.   I have invested a lot of time and money to get where I am now.   And the truth is we ALWAYS want to be better, that feeling of me wanting to learn more and improve will probably never go away.   But striving for greatness is what helps us reach milestones right?  I can’t hold back on my dreams of growth for those silly reasons 🙂

After I posted it I felt the need to put out a disclaimer, you know one of those comments that really means “don’t judge me please.”  Oh the crazy things that go through our photographer minds…. I know some of y’all out there can relate!!?  The bottom line is my ultimate goal is to help others, to keep this community positive, and pass on all the amazing things that I have learned from some of the most fabulous PEOPLE and photographers in Hampton Roads.   I’m blown away sometimes by the positivity in our community.  When other photographers hit the like button, or comment on my work, it means they are loving and supportive and not competitive.  I LOVE my network!  And I invite newbies in with open arms.

Thank you SOOO much to the fabulous emails I have already received from those who are interested in the chance to mentor!  I don’t even really like to call it “mentoring,” I like to call it a photography-hang-out!   haha!  I will pick a winner if I hit 900 likes by Monday.  BUT everyone that emails me will still get a little something just for taking the time <3

This photography-hang-out includes a Starbucks date to talk about whatever you would like to learn, and the chance to come along on a shoot with me, I will go over step by step how I run a session and my approach to capturing images.   I’m sure y’all can teach me stuff too!!!   No need to be a business owner, maybe you just wanna dust off that DSLR! <3
