If you know me well then you know that I’m an advocate for blogging, especially in the small business or entrepreneur field. I still struggle to get my 2-4 posts in a week. Not because I am short on content as much as I get short on time, or my brain simply struggles to work past a certain time at night. Also, whenever I have editing to do, I struggle to focus on anything else. I will say till I’m blue in the face that blogging is important, but I will also huff and puff about my blog LOL…… here are the loves and hates of writing a blog.
_________
LOVES: (and why blogging is important)
-Blogging keeps traffic on my website. If I take too many days off it kills my regular traffic. I don’t know much about SEO but I have learned that!
-It allows my clients to get to know me a little better. Unlike social media, blog posts are always here. A post on Facebook will just get lost in the mix!
-It helps draw in my ideal clients because there’s so much more to the perfect photographer/bride match than just a photography style
-My blog is where I keep some personal milestones too, like a journal or a diary. Gracie can always come back and visit when she gets older. I do really enjoy blogging.
-Oh yeah DUH, I can share all my beautiful photos here too!
_________
HATES: Why blogging can make me grumpy and throw tantrums
-A Blog rut is a real thing, motivation gets low, you feel like no one reads it so why bother… no one wants to hear what I have to say, etc, etc, we all do it! I can easily slip into a poor me my blog sucks kinda day.
-Finding time is one of the hardest things ever. Full time job, full-time mother and wife, Yoga 2 times a week, shooting, editing, the list goes on. Typically if I can’t start a blog post by 9pm it is not going to happen.
-OMG every photog will relate to this. Getting the dimensions just right is crazy. And on top of that I just got a retina screen and now I’m totally thrown for a loop. The pixel peeping becomes a problem!
– It is difficult. Nothing easy tends to be worth it, but blogging is no exception. It takes a lot of work. I love it, but some posts take hours; not to mention trying to stand out or be unique really requires a lot of love and attention for the blog.
___________
So what is the real point in sharing all my gripes about the blog? Well most of those are gripes about life right…. making time to do what you enjoy and/or what is important. Just like anything else a blog is a commitment. All commitments take work, attention, and effort. And with that comes the frustrations too.
THE GOOD NEWS
I have some REALLY exciting announcements coming SOON! There might just be some fun giveaways too 🙂
