When your Husband is a football coach that job comes with a family, a pretty large one. All though Mark does not coach anymore, that “family” is still intact. A lifelong respect for the wives, because we all “get it.” A group that I instantly feel close to, even if we don’t talk often, or see each other every Friday night anymore. To be a coach or a coach’s wife is a special job. The hours these men put in is beyond an amount we can even count. Saturdays, Sundays, there are no days off in football season. It is a hard time but a rewarding time.
These men are doing a job that seems like a “game” on the surface…… but really it is so much more than that. These men work their butts off for the kids. Teaching them life lessons that are embedded into practices and games. In my opinion… there really is no job more important, or more valuable. Shaping our youth, giving some of these kids their chance. When you are a football coach’s wife you all of a sudden become protective of this job, of these kids, and of each other.
The reason I’m even blogging about this today is because our football family needs help. One of the coaches, Merel, was struck by a car while biking to work. His family and friends are working hard to raise funds to help with his bills, his family, and help get him back on the field.
Merel is one of these important men. He’s a part of this family. He’s someone who always speaks to me in the hall because we have this common bond. He coached with my Husband…..he is not just another employee……He is someone Mark and I hang out with on a weekend get together, I have met his son, and he is loved by the same people who love my husband. These people are family, not by blood, but by this common ground. A bond, hard to understand if you have never been a coach, or a coach’s wife.
Even just a few dollars from a lot of people can go a LONG way. Merel is a hard worker, a great father, and a really GOOD PERSON. Coaching is just one of his many qualities….the one that brought him into Mark and I’s life. The last donation on this site was 7 DAYS AGO! That is not ok, lets keep it going!!!!!
