Choosing a picture for your Holiday card

So you didn’t get Holiday Pictures taken…. so you want to use a non-holiday-theme picture in your holiday card… that is totally OK!!  I have actually done that EVERY year until this year!    Wow right, I’m such a slacker with getting “holiday” pictures taken….. you know when you wear red/green/winter type gear/holiday background….. that stuff.

Here are a few options you can consider!

-Create a collage of different images from important events over the year… example last year we had Gracie, so I had a maternity photo, her newborn pic, her recent pic, and a picture of Mark and I.     So you didn’t have a baby, but maybe you went to a big game, bought a house, went on vacation?   Grab a photo or two of different milestones!

-Go with a Black and White image.  That will look nice on any holiday background.

-Choose your favorite picture from the year and pull out a color with in that photo to use for your background or Holiday theme.    For example, 2 out of the last 3 years my holiday card has actually been in yellow or had yellow in it…. but still looked Holiday!  There are TONS of colorful options out there!

-Don’t worry about it looking “perfect.”  Seriously…. no one really cares, they care about the thought, and the emotion that the picture might bring, and the word said.   Even as a photographer, I can’t say I even always use a professional photo!   Shoot, make one of those cute collage things from Instagram!   That could be totally awesome!

-Aesthetically when choosing a photo I would consider the following:  narrow it down to one with a clean simple background, good exposure (not too dark or too light), and in focus.   Don’t over zoom in or crop a photo, this might cause some damage to the quality in print.

-Keep it simple,  trust some of the amazing sites out there who have awesome templates.

Here is a list I have put together that some local photographers love to use!
