Dealing with rejection, failure, and critics…. | Elizabeth Henson Photos

Dealing with rejection, failure, and critics….

Day in and day out we mostly share all the amazingness of business.  Having an image or shoot published, the beautiful weddings, or the freedom that being business owner provides.   What people don’t see is the amount of times that photographers might get rejected along the way.   All the “no’s” that happen before the good news and celebrations.

That image is not a fit…..

I booked a wedding!  oh wait, I didn’t get it.

Or the giveaways with no entries.

Or the crappy stats on google analytics.   Yes, sometimes we sit and stare just to see if anyone is hanging out on the website that we pour our heart and souls into.

The huge investment that had no return.

A blog post with no views.

Or the workshop attempts with no attendees.

A delivery to a client with no response back.

A negative review…..

OMG the list goes on and on and on.   ANY business owner can relate to these, some, all, maybe more so in their past.

But we all go through it.

The key to dealing with it is simple.   Don’t. Give. Up.

Nothing worth having is built over night.   I have somehow learned to embrace all the rejection.  The lack of “likes”… the lack of “followers”  compared to the BIG people.   And somehow I just keep focusing on what I’m doing, what I’m building, and I keep moving forward.

It is almost like the rejection has become invisible.    Because was it even real to start with???

…… Probably not 🙂

There will always be hard days but deeper you get the stronger you get.  It is ok to be upset, sad, disappointed…. after all owing a business can feel like wearing your heart right on your sleeve…exposed, vulnerable, sensitive.  But embrace those feelings, deal with them, and keep working.

I’m not superwoman, I feel all the feels too, trust me.

If we let others affect our way of thinking or producing;  we are only hurting ourselves.  None of the rejection or failure matters…..they are just building blocks, embrace each of them.

Remember that another person’s success does not mean we failed or are lacking.   We are all the bomb.com just trying to make our way 🙂

Keep on trucking y’all!!!  We got this!!!!
