October 30th is just about here! That is my daddy’s birthday. This is also the day we are expecting our little girl to arrive. We have a last appointment today, check into the hospital tonight, and expect her to arrive sometime tomorrow. October 30 has always been her due date, but due to my high amniotic fluid the doctors think its best to induce her. I told them I’m perfectly fine with that, baby being safe is the most important thing, BUT this is also a special day in our family. I was born on my Grandmother’s birthday, so it just keeps that tradition going of sharing a birthday with a special grandparent. I’m thrilled. No matter when she comes, it will be on or close to her grandaddy’s special day too.
So this year for my dad’s birthday he gets to hold is FIRST grandchild. Happy Birthday Dad!!!!
I had a pretty awesome dad growing up, and I look forward to seeing Mark do the same.
Some important things my dad taught me:
- How I should expect to be treated by a man by seeing how he loves my mother everyday.
- How to be places on time no matter what
– That I could play outside and be rough and tumble with him and my brother - You can’t put price tag on the value of playing sports and following your dreams. Lessons they teach are more important than money.
- Women can play sports just as good as men
- My dad taught me to be color blind at a very young age, and I’m not talking about his navy blue and black socks….. My dad has always been kind to everyone, he even learned spanish to better serve his employees. He never stopped me from driving into the projects to help someone else, and he always did the same.
-He taught me how to make my own decisions
Some things about me that are BECAUSE of my dad
-I have always been strong enough to walk away from a relationship that is not good for me. (hence the first one above)
-Despite my parents NEVER talking to me about money, or making me feel guilty about anything, I’m amazing with my money. I have always been able to budget and manage my bills on my own.
-I get my outgoing personality from him, we like to talk to strangers
-I was a good athlete because my dad never pushed me to do any of it, but he also never missed a game.
Funny things about me and my dad:
-We used to sneak junk food into the grocery cart when my mom was not looking
-We are both terrible cooks …. maybe non-cooks is a better term
-We are both nail-biters
-We were both bed-wetters as kids
-We are both NOT allowed to drink Gin.
Happy Birthday Dad!!! And here are also some pics of the nursery. October 30th is going to be even more awesome!
This blanket was hand made by my mother’s grandmother! A wedding gift to her and my dad.
