- How do I come up with ideas for new creative projects or products?
Show Notes
Today, let’s take a look behind the scenes to see how I brainstorm ideas and turn those ideas into programs and products. People often ask me where I get my ideas for my business. Part of it is that I love to come up with a ton of different ideas and throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks. But I’ve also come up with ideas because there was something that I needed and couldn’t find.
If I need it, and I want it, and I think it will help my business, maybe other people will agree and they’ll want this thing too.
Idea #1: Color Study Sessions
I have a background in art and design, so color palette and branding come easily to me, but as I was developing my style, I realized that no one was teaching new photographers how to align their color palette with their branding. Photographers have a unique situation where when they’re editing their pictures, they can and should create a consistent signature edit and align that edit with their overall brand. These 90-minute color study sessions with photographers are a great way to help photographers create a consistent style.
Idea #2: Find Your 5 Wolfpack Mastermind
I love talking business! Obviously, that’s why I started this podcast. Photographers, I noticed, will shy away from networking groups that will have other photographers. I think they’re forgetting the importance of connecting with and masterminding with other photographers. It’s so important to grow side-by-side with other photographers. It’s not a competition. I already had my five people, but I wanted to give other people the opportunity to make these kinds of relationships.
Idea #3: Hampton Roads Creative Network
The Find Your 5 Program naturally lead to the Local Creative Network. I’ve joined lots of local meetups and networking events, but I never found one that I wanted to come back to over and over again. I really sat down and came up with the reasons for why I didn’t want to return to these events. To figure out what was missing, I created a wish list of what I really wanted in these events.
When I sat down and thought about what I wanted in a networking event, I realized that I wanted events that were focused on forward-thinking, creative women with a supportive network. I was not alone in wanting a community of women who take themselves seriously, no matter where they are as an entrepreneur — we already have 14 members!
I want to hear what you’re missing and what you want more of! If you have an idea for a creative project, share it on the Messy Squad on Facebook and let me know how I can help you! I’ll have one person on for a brainstorming session on the next episode of Messy Success in two weeks!
