Show Notes

This actionable episode, I share 3 tips for your first year in business. These are three things that I did when I started my photography business in 2013 that I truly feel like were game changes for me and they helped me propel my success forward so that I was able to go full-time in just a short two and a half years. These tips can be applied no matter where you are in your business, whether your business is brand new or your five years into it.

Don’t Make Your First Year in Business About the Money

My first year in business, I wasn’t even thinking about revenue. It wasn’t about the money. It was about my love of photography and it was about wanting to learn. I was looking at everything as a learning opportunity. Whatever money I did make was a bonus that I got to pour back into my business. My mission was not money, it was how can I get better at my craft and how can I put the word out there that I’m doing this. It was about the heart behind it.

If whatever you’re doing is all about the money, then it might not be the perfect match for you. The sooner you can invest yourself, your energy, and your time into something that truly lights you up and makes you happy and makes you want to serve the world with that thing, the sooner that success is going to come to you. I really believe that!

Share Everything

If you’re getting ready to start a business, maybe you’re just dreaming about it: share! Nobody is going to help you achieve your goals and your dreams if they don’t know what those goals are! If it just lives in our head, then it’s not real. Let people get invested in your journey and your process. Don’t keep it a secret!

Invest In Yourself and Your Business

You need to invest in yourself and invest in making your dream a reality. Whether it’s finding a mentor, finding a community, taking classes, find the educational experience that works for you. Investing in your business is investing in yourself!

Takeaways

  • Invest in your dreams, invest in yourself and make it happen!
  • Challenge #1: Share something online about your goals. Hold yourself accountable, but also ask your people to follow along.
  • Challenge #2: Give yourself permission to make that business investment that you’ve been wanting to make. Take an action step to get closer to your goal.
